| NCFCA Apologetics Workbook
|
This was the best money I ever spent on any class. My son's understanding of the Bible grew in leaps and bounds. He became more confident in his faith and began helping teens who were wavering in their faith. The best endorsement I can give is this - I persuaded him to take it the first year but he is insistent on taking it for a second year. - Allison D., North Attleboro, MA.

About Me
I am passionate about the NCFCA Apologetics Speech category. Growing up in a Christian home, I had questions about the faith but never asked them. The questions in this category present a great opportunity to discuss what we believe and why. Although I am not officially associated with NCFCA, I am a homeschool dad and pastor. I prep local kids to compete in this event and have come up with some materials that I think are helpful.
Barriers and Solutions
However, there are several barriers to making this a successful category.
Barrier 1. The number of questions are overwhelming to the average student!
Solution: A workbook that gives hints on how to make cards, hints on verses to study, groups the 100 questions into similar categories, and links questions to a popular theology book.
The new workbook has sections on: practical hints on where to research, how to organize your card, how to organize your speech, etc.
The majority of the book is a workbook with one page per question for students to write down their research to the questions. It is not the answers to the questions themselves (like a debate bluebook)! The questions have suggested readings, suggested Scriptures and suggested links.
You can view a sampler by clicking here or on the line at the bottom of the page.

Apologetics helped me understand why I believe what I believe and aided me in getting to know God better. I've learned a lot - not just in my head, but in my heart as well. - Hayley H. (17), Cranston, RI. Three-time Apologetics NCFCA National Competitor

How to Order
New for 2009-2010! I have partnered with Monument Publishing to publish and distribute version three of the workbook. Questions are broken down into 24 convenient categories. In addition, I have authored a teacher's guide that will help parents/coaches cover much of the material. This curriculum gives you suggested lecture notes and assignments for a 24 week course or a 12 week course. Workbooks are available for order from Monument Press.
Feel free to contact me at chap[atsign]tonguetied.org to ask your questions.
------------------------------------------------------------------ This class brings you closer to God than you ever thought possible. I learned and grew so much this past year. - Bailey B. (16), Blackstone, MA.

Barrier 2. The answers to these questions are overwhelming to the average parent! The theologically inclined parent will enjoy the challenge, but the hardworking homeschool mom will feel overwhelmed.
Solution:
a. Form an NCFCA Apologetics/Doctrine Club. Meet with several like-minded families to study the questions together. OR
b. Sign up to take the course electronically as I teach it again for the 2009-2010 season. The class will use Internet based audio lectures and meeting software, a forum to interact online with other students and a regular time to use online chat. Click here to read more information about the class.
------------------------------------------------------------------ “Apologetics” moved our teen boys from a devotional understanding of God into a deeper theological framework. The classes sparked numerous conversations around the dinner table. Both of our sons came away grounded in their faith and excited about theology. We heartily recommend this course for any family wanting their children to move beyond a "Sunday School" understanding of the faith. - Steve and Joanne W., Cumberland RI.
